Hello everyone,
I'm a microbiologist at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma. I teach microbiology, immunology and introductory biology (and whatever else is needed). RSU is an undergraduate only university, and has only been a 4 year school for 10 years, and all of our biology majors are required to do a capstone research project. I get more than my share of students to supervise, all with different projects. I'm continuing to work on quorum sensing in the genus Serratia, and this summer will start a new research project looking at the microbes at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, in collaboration with a colleague in Phoenix. In fact, I just got back to my office from unpacking our department's first fluorescence microscope, bought for this project. I've gone through secondary education training and internship, and it was that experience that began to focus me on teaching and scholarship in teaching. I feel that ASM Division's W, ASMCUE, and MicrobeLibrary are very important, and have been working to contribute to these ever since their inceptions.
